Prerequisites: Random Signals 044202

Introduction:

Introduction to statistical communication theory. Introduction to statistical decision theory, discrimination between a finite number of possible signals. The optimal receiver for known signals embedded in additive white Gaussian noise. The correlation receiver and the matched filter. The error probability and bounds. Basic digital modulation methods. Efficient signal design for binary digital communication. Detection of signals with unknown parameters and non-coherent communications. The classic radar problem. Elements of estimation theory with application to radar and PPM. Binary communication in the Poisson regime (optional).
